Bicycle Navigation Using a GPS

Presented by CIBA Members Don Kirk and John Calhoun

If you’ve wondered about using GPS to plan and/or track your tour, but feel overwhelmed at the idea of entering into such unfamiliar territory, you’ll want to make this evening a priority. Don Kirk and John Calhoun will be our tour guides, gently leading us through all the techie twists and turns to our destination: GPS Competency. Although there’ll be no diploma awarded, you will leave with a feeling of familiarity with this new territory.

• Learn 5 methods of GPS navigation (you may already use one of these methods in your car).

• Learn how to setup your GPS and mapping software for best results.

• Learn how to create your own routes and why via point (waypoint) placement is critical.

• Learn why that 50 mile route downloaded from the internet displays as a 5 mile route on your GPS.

• Learn buying considerations.

• Learn about online mapping resources and their limitations.
